TWO CALENDARS (Gregorian & Matariki) within ŌRUA weave their way simultaneously through Time for ease of use and application within both working environments. ŌRUA is released twice annually to coincide with your preferred Calendar starting date. Gregorian Year begins January - Matariki Year begins June. A Transitional Edition is available for months between the Gregorian and Matariki years.

Gregorian or Solar Calendar Year (also known as the Common or World Calendar) follows a 24 hour Sun cycle and system of Time based on a cycle of 400 years. The length of a year, approximately 365 days, is determined by the time it takes the Earth to complete a single rotation around the Sun.

Matariki Calendar Year (Māori System of Time, Seasons and Industry) is based on the Moon and its powerful gravitational influences on the Earth. The length of a year is governed by the number of lunar cycles (30 moonnights or 29.5 days) that fall between the heliacal or dawn rising of Matariki (Pleiades Cluster) in the Southern Hemisphere from one year to the next. The Matariki year begins with the first new moon to follow this rising. Industry is governed by the appearance of Food-Bearers (specific stars and planets) and Signs of the Seasons (specific birds, insects and native trees or plants in flower or fruit).
